Innovation Mapping is contest finalist
HUNTINGTON,
IN
—
Innovation Mapping, a Huntington-based geographic
information system (GIS) company, is a finalist in the 2006
Opportunity for Indiana Business Plan Competition.
The company, operated by Joel Holloway and Chris Tallman,
will compete for a grand prize of $25,000 Friday, Dec. 1,
when they make their final presentations at Indiana
University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Holloway and Tallman will have 20 minutes to present their
business plan before the judges, with a question and answer
session following.
“We're approaching it as if we were looking for investors,”
said Holloway.
Holloway said this is the first business competition he and
Tallman have participated in, and that the timing of the
contest helped.
“The Innovation Center in Fort Wayne encourages its clients
to produce business plans,” Holloway explained. “It was good
timing because we had made one for ourselves so we entered
it into the competition.”
The Innovation Mapping duo was selected out of 29 entries, a
fact that might help them keep their confidence.
“I like our chances,” said Holloway.
“I think our chances are as good as any. It will boil down
to the presentation.”
The Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship at Purdue
University administers the annual contest, which is also
held on Purdue's West Lafayette and Calumet campuses. The
second place team will win $15,000 and the third place team
will win $10,000.
The competition begins at 9 a.m. at IPFW's Kettler Hall,
Room 243.
An awards ceremony will begin Friday afternoon at 1:15 p.m.,
when the winning team will be announced.
